Local Culture and Places of Interest

The City of Turku (the Swedish name Åbo), is located on the south-western corner of Finland and 160 kilometers west of the capital city Helsinki in an area which has the oldest cultural traditions in Finland. In fact, Turku is the oldest city in Finland and was also the capital of Finland up to the year 1812. The city is a fascinating combination of past and present, and has its own special atmosphere created by the River Aura, the vicinity of the sea and the archipelago, and a harmonious blend of old and new. Due to its long and colorful past, there are many attractions of historical importance for visitors. The Cathedral and Turku Castle, both dating back to the 13th century, have played an important role in the history of the city.

In 1996 Tuku was declared the official Christmas City of Finland. During the year 2011 Turku has been designated to be the European Capital of Culture together with Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia. In addition, today Turku is one of the most popular conference towns in Finland hosting numerous international conferences every year. The EASA 2010 will take place in the end of the holiday season still providing opportunities experiencing the “summery”weather in Finland.

Attending 3EP helped me understand how to include entrepreneurial skill-set development into software engineering curriculum. During just a few very intense days I got concrete ideas that I already have applied in my teaching, as well as a broader view on entrepreneurial education in an academic curriculum. I strongly encourage educators willing to add an entrepreneur flavor to their teaching to participate 3EP, regardless of discipline.
